The 2017 UK Car of the Year Awards has seen Toyota drive away with the ‘Best Family Car’ award, proving that the world’s most successful hybrid has become a car that ranks as Britain’s best all-round. The Prius is smart, practical, spacious, reliable and genuinely fun to drive.
The award-winning fourth generation Prius was chosen for the top spot by a team of independent award judges, made of up some of Britain’s most experienced and respected motoring journalists. Hailed by the judges as “a car you’d want to own rather than just benefit from its low emissions”, they praised it for offering “everything you need in a family car – spacious, enormous boot, plenty of standard equipment and those all-important high mpg figures”.
John Challen, Managing Director of the UK Car of the Year Awards, declared: “The Prius story continues – and it’s one that gets better with every release. The shift from ‘hybrid’ car to mainstream is complete.”
With family motorists placing great emphasis on safety, the Prius excels in this area having won the best-performing large family car award in Euro NCAP’s 2016 test programme. It also makes best possible use of the available space with a family-friendly boot thanks to its compact yet energy-rich hybrid batter and double wishbone suspension system.
Offering low emissions and high fuel efficiency, the office test figures for the Prius show combined cycle fuel economy from 94.1mpg and CO2 output from 70g/km.
