The edgy Toyota C-HR has been honoured with the “Game Changer” award from motoring magazine Autocar for its disruptive impact on the cosy and conventional crossover market.
The award is presented to cars which have “turned the established order on its head”, setting new standards and defying convention.
With the agility of a dynamic hatchback but the luxuries of a SUV, the Toyota C-HR added a new flare to the segment. Offering motorists the choice of a 1.2 Petrol Turbo engine available in front or all-wheel drive as well as a 1.8 Petrol Hybrid engine powered by the latest development of Toyota’s full hybrid technology.
Inside, the C-HR’s interior is totally unique offering an airy and spacious environment which focuses on the driver. An asymmetric centre console offers easy reach to all the controls whilst being still accessible by the front seat passenger.
Offering a wide variety of equipment features the C-HR stands out for providing motorists with the Toyota Safety Sense as standard. Toyota’s active safety systems keep drivers and passengers out of harm’s way through innovative systems such as a Pre-Collision System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert and Road Sign Assist.
Speaking of the C-HR, Mark Tisshaw, Autocar Editor said: “The Toyota C-HR is the product of the global car industry giant getting out of its seat on the periphery of the European market to up the ante. It’s an interesting refreshing and genuinely good addition to the crossover class and as such is a worthy winner of one of the Autocar Game Changer awards.”
His comments echo the findings of the magazine’s C-HR road test, in which it praised Toyota for its “new-found fearlessness when it comes to design”.
Paul Van der Burgh, President and Managing Director of Toyota GB, said: “It’s fantastic to see C-HR being recognised by Autocar with this award for the fresh and radical new contribution it is making to the all-important crossover market. It’s our promise to make ever-better cars and C-HR really captures this principle – stand-out styling, a great driving experience and the option of our latest generation petrol-electric hybrid power, plus Toyota quality and reliability throughout.”
