The Hilux has been in production since 1968, and has grown to be one of the best-selling pick-up trucks in the world with accumulated sales in excess of 16 million. Despite increasing competition, the Hilux continues to outperform its rivals such as the Ford Ranger and the Nissan Navara. Toyota’s latest edition of its all-wheel drive pick-up is equally comfortable in an urban setting or off-road. Now in its eighth generation, the Hilux successfully combines strength with style, power with practicality.
The muscular look of the pick-up is softened by the curves and contours of the body shaping, for a more sophisticated design. Longer than its predecessor, the Hilux offers plenty of headroom and legroom for its passengers. Reinforcements have been added to the deck for extra strength. There is a choice of three cabin sizes: the two-seater Single, four-seater Extra and the five-seater Double Cab. The Single and Extra have the entry-level Active trim, while the Double Cab is also available in the Icon, Invincible and range-topping Invincible X. Features on the Icon grade and upwards include alloy wheels, a chrome-trimmed radiator grille and rear privacy glass.
Higher-spec models have convenient features such as smart entry and start for ease of access. High-quality, durable fabrics are used for the upholstery, with leather used on the higher grades. The seven-inch Touch 2 system is fitted on the Icon grade and above. Bluetooth audio is fitted as standard, with steering wheel-mounted controls for safer operation when you are on the move.
There are three options available in the Hilux line-up. The new 2.4-litre D-4D diesel engine enhances torque at lower speeds, and offers significantly faster acceleration. There are plans to increase towing capacity to 3.5 tonnes. The Hilux engines are compliant with the requirements of the Euro 6 emissions standards.
Toyota’s Safety Sense package is available as a factory option on the Active and Icon editions, and fitted as standard on the Invincible and Invincible X. Safety Sense makes use of the latest technology to keep you and your passengers safe, with features such as blind spot detection, lane departure alert, and emergency brake assist. The Hilux is backed by Toyota’s five-year warranty for added peace of mind.
