The eagerly awaited Toyota
RAVA hybrid is a refined, compact SUV. Set to go on sale in the UK early next
year, the all new vehicle is hybrid in both form and function, and was
well-received at the New York Motor Show.
Featuring the same hybrid
technology as the renowned Toyota Prius, the RAV4 runs on a 2.5-litre petrol
engine as well as an electric motor. With this model the Toyota design team
have managed to capture the essence of an SUV and that of a smaller, more
city-friendly vehicle. But that doesn't come at expense of power; with its
four-wheel-drive capability the RAV4 has a towing capacity of 1,650kg – a
weight equivalent to a caravan. More
striking design features include the wraparound tail-lights and a more angular,
contemporary face.
In terms of engines the new
hybrid RAV4 favours diesel power. An updated version of the current model's
2.2-litre engine will be available for both two and four-wheel-drive formats.
Typically Toyota, this new
model also comes equipped with sophisticated safety features. The Toyota Safety
Sense technology suite includes a pre-collision braking system, lane-departure
warning, and adaptive cruise control that maintains safe distance from the car
in front.
Inside, drivers and
passengers alike will enjoy the cool and comfortable finishings. An improved
cockpit is equipped with an easy to navigate colour TFT screen that operates an
extensive multimedia system. The 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor is also
integrated into this system and helps drivers avoid obstacles in blind spots.
Although any prices are yet
to be announced, the new RAV4 promises to be an excellent addition to the
Toyota family. Stay tuned for more information regarding the launch, and feel
