On Friday 18th November, four RMB employees took part in The Big Teesside Sleepout to raise money to help fight homelessness and poverty within Teesside.
Organised by Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation which RMB are proud to be a patron of, the 8th Big Teesside Sleepout saw kind-hearted individuals give up their warm beds for the night to "sleep rough" on the streets of Middlesbrough. This included our very own Marketing Manager, Andrea Small, Digital Marketing Executive Taraha Johnson, Sales Administrator Yvonne Ruffles and RMB Renault Sales Manager Andrew Fowle.
Held at Middlesbrough College, the Big Teesside Sleepout saw Team RMB sleep outside from 8pm on the Friday evening to 6am the next morning to raise money for local food banks, homeless charities and the Salvation Army’s Christmas appeals.
Sales Administrator Yvonne explained why she decided to get involved in the 8th sleepout, “Homelessness and poverty is a very close matter to me. It strikes deep down in my soul and it hurts knowing that there are people out there in our area that cannot afford essentials that most people take for granted”. Yvonne went on further to explain that sleeping rough was just a small donation of her which she felt wasn't really enough and has led to her offering her services to Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation in the future.
As Team RMB settled down for a night outside, entertainment was provided from Streetwise Operaaa, an award-winning charity that works with individuals who have experienced homelessness.
Digital Marketing Executive Taraha decided to get involved in the sleepout after missing out on the last one explaining “I saw the Big Teesside Sleepout advertised earlier this year for the April sleepout and at the time I was interested in taking part but never got round to it for one reason or another. As soon as Mandy from the foundation sent the details out about this event my mind was made up and I knew I wouldn’t miss out on taking part in it again.
Team RMB have manged to raise a staggering £913.00 in total, helping Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation to raise nearly £7,000 from the latest sleepout, which goes towards the £94,000 raised collectively through all of The Big Teesside Sleepout events.
