The mornings are becoming brighter and you no longer leave work in the dark. This can only mean one thing, spring is around the corner so it’s time to put away your winter woollies and get ready for nicer weather.
This seasonal change often prompts a lot of people to give their homes a thorough clean, but it’s important not to forget about your car as the rough winter weather will have taken its toll on your vehicle.
As we say goodbye to the cold, winter months here are our top tips to get your car ready for the springtime.
If you switched your tyres to winter tyres, now is the time to change them back to all-season tyres. Driving on winter tyres when there’s no ice or snow will lead to the tyres wearing down quickly, and next winter you may not realise they are low on tread.
Regardless of whether you switched your tyres on not, it’s important to check your tyres for any signs of damage, such as bulges, splits or cuts. Also remember to check the tyre pressure and tyre tread which should at least 1.6mm, anything lower is illegal.
If you notice any of your tyres are worn or damaged contact your nearest to RMB dealership to arrange getting them replaced.
Consistently braking on icy roads and driving on salt
covered roads can take its toll on your car’s brakes. Listen out for any
unusual noises whilst braking as this is a clear sign to get your brakes
checked over by a professional.
It’s important to check your engine’s fluids on a regular basis but if you’ve let this slip during the winter months make sure you check your car’s coolant and oil levels before heading into spring.
The engine coolant works to keep your car’s engine at the correct temperature and is a crucial element during the warmer months.
Although the weather gets better in spring, in the UK we’re partial to something called ‘April Showers’. So just like you wouldn’t leave home without an umbrella, its important your windscreen wipers are in full working order so you can drive safely during any downpours.
Finally, it’s time to get all that dirt and grime off your car. It’s always important to keep your car clean but during the winter dirt can build up underneath your vehicle, so after months of being attacked by salt, mud and muck your car deserves a thorough clean.
Take care to closely inspect your car whilst cleaning, looking for any signs of rust or stone chips which should be dealt with sooner rather than later to prevent them from getting worse.
After following our tips your car should now be ready to enjoy the warmth of spring.
