Luxury Japanese manufacturer, Lexus, is taking the fight to the leaders in the executive saloon segment with the release of its new RC F, due to launch in the UK in early 2015. The vehicle merges the best elements of an athletic coupé and an outright sports car to offer both pace and practicality, all wrapped up in typically eye-catching Lexus styling.
For the energetic performance that buyers expect, Lexus has fitted the RC F with a 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine, tweaked to produce 471bhp. Among its rivals the RC F will therefore beat any BMW M variant as well as those from Audi's Quattro GmbH arm. This power is sent through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which also features paddle shifters for manual control.
When on the road there are four separate drive modes to select performance output suited to each individual journey. Eco, Normal, Sport S and Sport S+ are the options, and they join stability modes of Normal, Sport, Off and Expert, depending on how much intervention you want. At its quickest, the saloon sprints from 0-60mph in around 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 168mph.
Joining the standard RC F grade will be RC F Carbon from launch, both equipping the model superbly well. The cabin of each is dominated by a seven-inch multimedia screen, which as standard features a ten-speaker multimedia system with satellite navigation, a DAB tuner and remote touchpad. Bluetooth ® mobile connectivity is also fitted, in addition to two USB sockets plus AUX-in for connecting external devices. Smart entry and start system enables you to lock, unlock and start the ignition without directly using the key, while dual-zone climate control keeps all occupants comfortable.
The RC F's list of premium features reflects the styling approach taken by Lexus, which aims to leave motorists in no doubt that the model belongs at the top of the market. On the outside a characteristic spindle grille remains at the front, positioned between air intakes that cut deep into the bumper. Expressive LED headlamps and tail lights are futuristic touches, while a quad exhaust arrangement at the rear hints at the car's performance credentials.
Inside it's a similar story, with soft-touch leather and aluminium accents found throughout. Sports pedals and carbon inlays with the RC F Carbon model are further motorsport details, featured inside with sports seats that are heated and boast one-touch function and memory.
