The new Lexus RC is a difficult car to take your eyes off. Its sporty bearing, precise contours and a bold, angular front profile combine to create a striking-looking vehicle. However, the RC isn’t just for show; it features an engine capable of significant power and pace. Furthermore, the new Lexus RC offers exceptional build quality, high specification levels and exceptional comfort.
Lexus’ signature spindle grille is lower-slung than before. Diamond-shaped LED headlights are positioned either side, recessed in a way that makes the nose of the car stand out even more. At low beam, these lights take on a twinkling L-shaped motif, reflecting the Japanese marque. Positioned below are sizeable air intakes which only add to the RC’s visual impact. The car’s tail lights are configured in such a way that the Lexus ‘L’ is clear to following vehicles. Along the side of the RC, ten-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels are adorned with black-and-platinum-finished centre caps.
The F Sport variant features 19-inch alloy wheels, while the spindle grille has a more uncompromising look that is formed of an F-motif mesh, which also characterises part of the rear bumper.
High-quality materials, including smooth leathers and genuine Shimamoku wood veneer, are fashioned in contrasting hues to emphasise the car’s sporty nature. A key-note colour is Clove, developed especially by Lexus for this vehicle. The company’s bespoke lighting package illuminates the cockpit from below rather than above, creating a distinctive ambience. Low-slung foam-injected sports seats contour to the occupant’s body-shape to provide optimal support and supreme comfort. A steering wheel and shift knob are race-inspired; the former is embellished with Lexus’ F Sport emblem and both are trimmed in perforated leather.
A 2.0-litre petrol turbo engine (available with the 200t F Sport) offers 241bhp, a maximum torque of 350Nm and comes with eight-speed automatic transmission. This enables the RC to go from 0-60mph in approximately 7.6 seconds and achieve top speed of 143mph. The 300h Luxury features a 2.5-litre hybrid engine that produces commendably low CO2 emissions, just 113g/km, and up to 57.6mpg. Most powerful of all is a 5.0-litre V8 engine (available with the RC F). This ensures the car can achieve 0-60mph in approximately 4.6 seconds, before reaching a maximum speed of 168mph. This option also provides 470bhp and a peak torque of 530Nm. In addition to Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes, the RC offers S+ which helps to sharpen the car’s performance further.
A seven-inch display screen provides a range of information. Features such as a reversing camera and a parking-assist monitor help you manoeuvre the RC in and out of tight spaces. The output of the vehicle’s CD player and DAB radio is channelled through six loudspeakers positioned around the cabin. Bluetooth® connectivity and AUX and USB ports offer plenty of streaming and plug-and-play options.
A range of safety features include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) which prevents wheels from jamming so that the car is still able to turn. Brake Assist system automatically provides additional braking power when you need it most. Traction Control prevents wheels from spinning on slippery surfaces by minimising power from the engine and momentarily applying brake pressure.
